New plants

I received a few new plants this week that I am excited about.

The first is Tejocote or Mexican Hawthorn. This is very popular in Mexico during XMAS for making punch. The fresh taste is kinda sour.

 The next is Luma Apiculata. This is a Crape Myrtle relative that is more orange but produces a blueberry type fruit.

 I received my first Honeberries which tend to be more Northern but I am going to try them in shade which they are fond of in hot areas.

 Clove Currant is apparently a more heat tolerant currant that fills your yard with incredible smells before fruiting.

Mango and Sunflower Paw Paws. So my Paw Paw experiment continues. I have a few seedlings in the ground and I planted about a hundred seeds under the Mesquite at the farm to see if they can form a relationship.

Lots of Serviceberry. I really hope that the Amelanchier alnifolia is the winner for the warmer climate and clay. I hear it is hugely adaptable. The killer might be the chill requirement.

Cat prints

I went out to check if the wild boars were coming back on the land and there were only a few tracks. I did however see a bunch of large tracks that looked like cat prints. I took some pics but they didnt come out that well.

 

 

Planting before the storm

I went out before the big storm hit tonight so I could get some more trees in the ground before it got too soggy. Of course, the rain missed us. I planted some Flying Dragon Citrus, Serviceberries and Contorted Jujube. The Apricots, American Pear "yuch", Apple, Green Gage Plums and Mexican Plum are all starting to flower. All the good stuff is being more conservative to see if we get another frost.
